PROJECT KICKOFF

How it started.

Within different weekends in fall 2017, my photographer friend was taking a set of photos of my friend (aka his "model", Branden) to practice his portrait shots. We all joked how Branden had kpop vibes in these photos. We called him Mr. kpop idol as a reoccuring joke. So one day, I had the bright idea of making this joke into reality, and thus started my design project to create his perfect debut album.

RESEARCH

Understanding the market.

I researched some of the most prominent kpop albums to get an understanding of what korean media companies are producing for each album and comeback. Across different companies, albums commonly contained:

  • CD — 3 to 10 song titles
  • DVD — behind the scenes bonuses,  or making-of MVs
  • Photobook — featuring themed shoots
  • Photo Card — 1 or 9 collectable cards for fans
  • Poster — 12 x 18in of all group members
  • Sticker — vinyl sticker of logo

LOGOWORK

Creating the logo.

I sketched various logo concepts to start, making sure I weigh in his opinion every step of the way.
