This project is a carabiner product concept designed for Discord's Community Hack Week.
Art Direction, Visual Design
When Discord announted that they will be hosting a community competition, I had to enter and create something cool. Initially, I avoided the most common forms of free merch, such as t-shirts, pens, or notepads. Inspiration soon came as I looked down at my desk. I was in Japan a month before Discord announced their Hack Week, I remember purchasing this cute cactuar-shaped carabiner when I visited the Square Enix Cafe in Akihabara, Japan. So, I ran with this concept for the contest.
While the most common branded carabiners have a beaner oblong oval shape and a logo on top , I wanted to ensure that people could tell that this was a high quality Discord carabiner. So, I took the original Discord logo and started playing around with its logo shape.
With the Discord "refined" logo complete, the outline was still too thin and weight could bend the product. With further drafts, I thickened the outlines and added a spot for the carabiner gate opening.
Packaging concept and print directions that follows Discord's branding guidelines.
